Chef Rob has created a wonderful dining experience with an important education attached to it. Look up the history and you will be drawn to this gem in quaint Rock Hill, SC. We had Mothers Day brunch and as usual, Kounter did not disappoint. Evan was an awesome, attentive server with a great personality. I had chicken and waffles and my husband had shrimp and grits with a side of the house potato hash, and Cubano toast. The chicken was bone in drumsticks, which was a little different, but the outside was very light, crispy and delicious. Bottomless mimosas of course were a perfect blend; not too strong, not too sweet. Everything was cooked perfectly and when they box up what you can’t finish, they even put the date on the box for you. Thank you Kounter for a great experience!

We went on a little date night adventure and our 1st stop was a nice dinner at Kounter. We had reservations so we did not have to wait. This was our first time to this restaurant and it’s not very large inside so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. The history of this place is so interesting to learn about and great that the owner kept the original counter and barstools! The food was great! The service was fast and friendly. We also met Chef Rob, such a down to earth friendly guy. If you are looking for a local date night spot, give Kounter a shot! I’ve been wanting to try this place for months and I was not disappointed. I tried the biscuits and gravy and I was impressed and I was sweating when I was done. The 3 peppers in it is not overly hot, just a lingering burn. The fennel in the sausage was nice as well. I was blown away 1st by the presentation then the taste. The cup of coffee was perfect as well. I’m reserving a 5 as I need to try other items. 2nd trip I ordered the double patty burger. She’s a messy girl but delicious. The fries came with some kind of sauce which was okay, but I’d imagine someone would like them dry. Kounter deserves a 5 from me.

The food was wonderful. I had the seared scallops with the fried cheddar grit croutons. It was delicious, and not a huge meal which helped save room for dessert. The seasonal espresso cheesecake cannoli was amazing! The shell is a bit thinner than your standard cannoli shell, but the cheesecake filling has a great tang to go with its sweetness. The staff was great too. Skylar was attentive and helped me decide on things to eat and drink as everything looks good. Can't recommend them enough.

We are traveling & had a lovely first experience at Kounter. Our waitress Ajada was SO kind, attentive & extremely helpful with recommendations. She did not steer us wrong! We got the beef sliders, salmon salad & the cheesecake cannoli for dessert. All so flavorful & uniquely presented. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful & very clean, too. We’ll definitely keep this spot in mind when we’re back in town.

I had dinner at Kounter, and this was my first time eating here. It was interesting to learn that this restaurant, under a different name in 1961, made history as 9 young African-Americans staged a sit-in to demand service at the whites only lunch counter. They have a nice selection of craft cocktails, and I had a winter is coming. It has Woodford with spiced maple syrup and a fresh pressed lemon. If you like bourbon, I recommend this cocktail. There were four of us, so we ordered food to share. The smoking tuna poke was outstanding, and the presentation when it is brought to the table is impressive. We also had the deep south tacos and the beef sliders. They were both very good, although the sliders had a bit too much salt. If you are in downtown Rock Hill, I recommend eating at Kounter.
